Airbrush makeup basics

Airbrush makeup is another way of applying makeup by attaching a bottle (or other container) of foundation or pigment to an airbrush, and lightly spraying the foundation or pigment onto the face. The airbrush is attached to a hose, which is further connected to a compressor, and expels low air pressure. This method allows for even distribution and coating because you can apply more without disrupting the previous application. The airbrush application doesn?t irritate your skin, and more often provides a flawless finish. Because of the light mist application, you have more control over how much is applied to your skin, which
You can airbrush blush, eyeshadow, or foundation, or stick to the more traditional methods if you so choose. I personally love the application method, but the truth of the matter is, no matter how makeup is applied to your face, it will only look as good as the skin that it?s applied to. In other words, airbrush makeup cannot give you a flawless finish if you?re suffering from moderate acne breakouts or have scarred skin. It will conceal the discoloration, but the indentions will remain (if there are any). I believe the decision to use this application is purely a personal preference.
As a makeup artist I do believe that it?s a very valuable skill to obtain because clients tend to lean towards what?s considered popular at the moment. You?ll have a better chance of getting the assignment if you have the necessary experience and equipment. Airbrush makeup does not require a sheer powder finish, and is available in water-resistant and multi-shade formulations. If you are an artist looking to gain experience with airbrush, then know that most kits come with adequate instructions (including videos) on how to use the air compressor machine. It will take a couple of hours of practice before you begin to feel comfortable with it. Remember to keep your eyes closed, and avoid spraying into the nose and ear canals.
In regards to spending money for a machine, try not to exceed $140 for a nice compressor. There are some vendors that have brands starting at $30. To get the full use of the airbrush machine, be sure to follow the manufacturer?s instructions on regular cleanings, and troubleshooting.
