Cleure Total Cover Concealer Mineral Makeup

CleureCleure is proud to announce the official launch of their highly anticipated mineral Total Cover Concealer. This easy to use, light-weight concealer is the newest member of their mineral make-up line. As with all of Cleure’s sensitive skin products, the new concealer is salicylate free, fragrance free, and hypoallergenic. Cleure is pleased to announce that this concealer is also paraben free, making it one of the gentlest make-up products currently available.

Total Cover Concealer is a light-reflective concealer formulated to camouflage dark circles, imperfections and blemishes, without settling into fine lines or caking. Not only is this product free of harsh chemicals, but it also contains broad-spectrum SPF-25, ensuring that your makeup is also protecting the delicate skin on your face.

Cleure’s Total Cover Concealer comes in four shades: Buff (Light), Bisque (Medium), Honey (Dark) and Camouflage. Buff is a fair, yellow based shade, ideal for hiding dark areas around the eye, under-eye circles, mild red tones on the skin, and even blending away bruises. Bisque is a medium, pink-based shade, ideal for olive complexions. Honey is a golden warm shade for darker skin tones. Camouflage is a versatile green-based color that is perfect for disguising acne and blending away red.

Cleure’s company philosophy is based on an understanding of what goes on the skin, goes in the skin and thus the body, giving skin care products the power to enhance or detract from overall personal health. Cleure firmly believes that you should not put chemicals on the skin that you would not expose your major organs to. After all, your skin if your largest organ and in many ways the gateway to your body. Many cosmetics and personal care products do not adhere to this philosophy and include chemicals such as salicylate, paraben, triclosan, and various phthalates, many of which are linked to hormonal issues, severe skin sensitivity, adult onset allergy development, and even cancer*. Cleure prefers to create sensitive skin care products that are free of these potentially dangerous and irritating ingredients. Instead, the company uses proven science to create products that are safe and enhance the skin’s physical appearance, without forcing consumers to choose between beauty and long-term wellbeing.

Quotes:
“I believe you can be beautiful without toxins. Our skin is the largest organ and we easily absorb all types of ingredients added to our cosmetics. Through years of research, we have finally found the right cosmetics to offer our customers that are safe.”

Learn more about cosmetic additives Triclosan, phthalates, and paraben:

Parabens have been used in cosmentics and personal care products since the 1920s as a preservative in order to increase product shelf life. The most common in cosmetics include: methyl-paraben, ethyl-paraben, propyl-paraben, isopropyl-paraben and butyl-paraben. EWG reports of several studies that suggest parabens can disrupt reproductive hormones (Routledge 1998; Inui 2003; Mikula 2006; Pugazhendhi 2007). Other side effects include irritation of the skin or causing allergic reactions (Schamberg 1967; Soni 2002; CIR 2006). Other studies suggest parabens are estrogenic, in that they mimic the hormone estrogen, therefore disrupting normal function of the hormone system (Gomez 2005; Mikula 2006; Pugazhendhi 2007). Likewise, cancer* has also been linked to parabens in other lab studies and to reproductive health problems ((Oishi 2001, 2002); Byford 2002; Darbre 2003). While the FDA limits the levels of parabens allowed in food and beverages, it does not regulate these chemicals in cosmetics and body care products. People are exposed to Parabens via many products throughout a day.Phtalates are widely used in cosmetics and personal care products as a preservative and fragrance. Several studies have suggested that Phthalates interfere with hormones production, and create a potential risk for human reproductive and thyroid systems. Other preliminary studies link phthalates to diabetes and asthma (Bornehag 2004; Stahlhut 2007; Kolarik 2008).Triclosan free: Triclosan is a non-active “antibacterial” ingredient found in liquid hand soaps, toothpastes, deodorants, acne treatments and increasingly in cosmetics. Over time, this ingredient can build up in the body and can potentially increase the effect of thyroid hormones. In two studies (Fiss 2007) it was shown to also disrupt other critical hormone systems, such as both estrogenic and androgenic effects on human breast cancer cells (Gee 2008).

Tabs for Essence Nail Polish

Tabs went buck wild this week, kitty modeling all over the globe. “I’m in the house, b*tches!” he recently told Rolling Stone. He had jobs in Tahiti, outer space, Bon Temps (a small town in Louisiana…), Germany and Beijing, but now he’s back home in Cali with me.

Here’s a look at his portfolio from the week. He hopes you enjoy. :)

Tabs for MAC Jade Fortune Eyeshadow

Tabs for the Tarte True Blood Collection at Sephora

Tabs for the MAC Semi Precious Collection

Tabs for the Givenchy Acid Tabby Collection

Who is Tabs the Cat? About three years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). :)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Did you happen to watch True Blood tonight?? I’m just about to watch it right now. I hope they bring back the sassy Tara, the way she was in the first season.

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, June 27

Mon, 06/27/2011 by Karen | Posted in: Just For Fun

You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 174. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
Mood:

Pretty good. I mean, it is Monday, but I just had a cup of coffee and cleaned off my desk, so things are looking up.

When did you first understand the meaning of heartbreak?

I was 14, with my first case of puppy love, and had just broken up with my boyfriend. Looking back, I was probably too young to be dating at all, but I can still remember how I felt every time we’d see each other around after the split — like something stole the air out from under me and knocked the wind out of my chest. My world had been shaken, and it took me a long time to recover.

What was your all-time favorite vacation?

The trip El Hub and I took to Europe in 2005. We crammed four countries into 14 days — England, France, Spain and Portugal. It was an exhilarating, exhausting time, and it was on that trip, one night in a small, candlelit dining room at a bed and breakfast in Northern Spain, that El Hub got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. :)

Platform shoes: yea or nay?

Yea, but it totally depends. I can’t hang with platforms taller than 2.5 inches (disaster waiting to happen).

Do you prefer ice cream cups or cones?

How about one of each? Okay, if I have to pick one, I’ll take a cup, please. Less mess.

Would you rather text, call or e-mail?

These days I’d rather call. I’m a slow texter, and I’m already overwhelmed with email.

When was your last haircut?

April, and I’m way overdue. My bangs are out of control!

Someone who changed your life?

Believe it or not, Tabs. After leaving home for school and spending years without a pet, I’d forgotten how wonderful life with a a furry companion can be.

Your favorite healthy snack?

Frozen grapes! Especially on hot days. They’re low-cal and almost as satisfying as ice cream and froyo (almost).

Weekly goals:

I didn’t take good care of myself last week. Not enough exercise or water, and too many snacks. I have to do better this week, hook or crook, and I’m going to try to get to bed by 10 every night (okay, 10:30).

I knew today was going to be a great day when I checked my email and found this adorable picture…

Meet Sweet Pea, the kitty who lives with MBB reader Amber. Notice how she’s snuggling with Amber’s tube of MAC Lipglass in Evolution Revolution? Clearly, Sweet Pea is a cat of impeccable taste. :)

If you catch your cat (or dog/hamster/turtle or other animal friend) modeling with your tube of EvRev, send me a pic by e-mail to karen at makeupandbeautyblog dot com, or via Facebook or Twitter. They just might appear in future MBB pet modeling jobs.

Now, on with the Monday Poll!

To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

1. Mood:
2. When did you first understand the meaning of heartbreak?
3. What was your all-time favorite vacation?
4. Platform shoes: yea or nay?
5. Do you prefer ice cream cups or cones?
6. Would you rather text, call or e-mail?
7. When was your last haircut?
8. Someone who changed your life?
9. Your favorite healthy snack?
10. Weekly goals:

If you promise to have a good week, I’ll do the same. Pinky swear!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Permanent Makeup Review

Permanent makeup is where tattooing is used in place of traditional makeup to enhance the look of someone?s eyes, lips, eyebrows, and to disguise scars. The more common cosmetic uses that I?ve witnessed are eyelining and filling in the eyebrows (eyebrow shaping). Instead of lining the eyes, a dark pigment (black or brown) is tattooed onto the eyelids, which is convenient for someone who isn?t skilled enough to line their eyes to their satisfaction. The permanent eyeliner will remain in place for years to come, and that eliminates any frustration you?ve experienced during the makeup application process.
Permanent makeup used to create eyebrows is popular for those who have extremely thin eyebrows, or have lost their brow hairs due to alopecia. Instead of using makeup to draw or create eyebrows, the desired design is tattooed onto the face using natural pigment, and will last for a significantly long time. Another method used for the lips involve lip lining or coloring. During this process, color is permanently placed along the border of the lips to appear as natural as any lip liner, and in the color you choose. Colored pigment can also be placed on top of the lips to appear as a matte lipstick in whatever shade suits you best. Also, if you suffer from facial scarring, then this approach will work well for you. It will disguise the scar to give you a more natural appearance.
Side effects of getting permanent makeup can include swelling of the skin, keloids, or some type of infection, although those cases are rare. It is possible that color will fade overtime, so it is necessary for you to know that touchups may be required at least three years later. It is also important for you to consider the complexity of the removal process. Because it is a tattoo, the typical removal methods are Intense Pulsed Light Therapy, laser removal, and dermabrasion. These methods can be quite painful, and you will have to attend at least a few sessions in order to remove the pigment completely. Another option, which is least effective, is a tattoo removal cream. It has received mixed reviews, so it?s possible that it may not completely remove a tattoo.
It is extremely important for you to get referrals before engaging in this process, and view the service provider?s portfolio and history. I would even go the extra mile and call a few of their past clients. The reason I feel this is important is because your appearance will become permanently altered, and you have to live with the results, whether they are good or bad. I?ve seen results that were flawless, and I?ve also met women who were not satisfied with the work they received and became upset as a result.
I myself considered this idea years ago, until another makeup artist persuaded me not to. He pointed out the fact that makeup techniques (and looks) are constantly evolving, and that it would not be in my best interest to get ?stuck? with a look that may go out of style in the next few years. I like to create different looks, and I usually stay on top of the current trends. His honest reasoning meant a lot to me, but your situation may be different. However, it is something to consider. If you are highly concerned with the convenience of not having to reapply makeup, and have a more laid-back approach to the makeup application process, then permanent cosmetics will work well for you.

Introduction to Bare Minerals Makeup

Does Bare Minerals Makeup Actually Work?
BareMinerals is a revolutionary foundation that is created purely with natural ingredients. Providing excellent coverage and long lasting results, it has quickly become one of the biggest selling foundations throughout the world. So what exactly is it and how does it work?
Understanding BareMinerals Make-Up
BareMinerals foundation is created using minerals that are taken straight from the earth. They are crushed down to create a powder, which when applied, provides excellent coverage. It looks natural yet it still hides most imperfections and blemishes.
The main advantage to the product is that it is completely natural. This means that it contains no preservatives, fragrances, oil, or talc. There has been a lot of focus on the chemicals contained within make-up over the past few years and many women are realizing that the make-up they wear is not good for their skin. If you have found that you are suffering from bad skin problems on your face, it could be your make-up. So try switching to the BareMinerals range and see if the problems subside.
As well as providing a natural appearance, Bare Minerals makeup is also really light. So you do not realize that you are even wearing make-up. It will not clog the pores so that reduces the likelihood of you developing pimples. It is just a pleasure to wear and it fits perfectly with the current make-up trend that tends to lean more towards the natural look.
An interesting fact about the BareMinerals foundation is that it may look like a powder and be applied like a powder, but it isn't one. As you apply it, you will feel that the foundation is actually quite silky and creamy. This is what provides the long lasting results and the best thing is - it is suitable for all skin types.
Finally, another advantage of the make-up is that you control the amount of coverage that you have. It comes with different shades to allow you to apply either a natural, thin layer of make-up. Or you can apply as much as you like to build up different levels of coverage. The more you apply, the more coverage your skin will have. It also contains SFP15 so it will protect the skin against potential sun damage.
What Others Say
If you search online, you will find that the general opinion of the product is that it lasts all day. Even people who suffer from oily skin have stated that the foundation stays on all day when usually other brands would come off within two to three hours.
There are many people who have been concerned about whether the foundation will cover acne and other scars. Typically, as you can apply as much or as little as you like, it is possible to cover acne scarring and other skin blemishes. However, there are some people who still recommend using a separate concealer under the foundation to cover severe scarring.
Bare Minerals makeup is considered to be one of the best foundations around. Thousands of women swear by it and when you look at its advantages it really isn't difficult to see why.You can get Bare Minerals up to 50% Off here as well as video tutorials: http://tvproducts4sale.com/blog/id-bare-minerals/

Airbrush makeup basics

Airbrush makeup is another way of applying makeup by attaching a bottle (or other container) of foundation or pigment to an airbrush, and lightly spraying the foundation or pigment onto the face. The airbrush is attached to a hose, which is further connected to a compressor, and expels low air pressure. This method allows for even distribution and coating because you can apply more without disrupting the previous application. The airbrush application doesn?t irritate your skin, and more often provides a flawless finish. Because of the light mist application, you have more control over how much is applied to your skin, which
You can airbrush blush, eyeshadow, or foundation, or stick to the more traditional methods if you so choose. I personally love the application method, but the truth of the matter is, no matter how makeup is applied to your face, it will only look as good as the skin that it?s applied to. In other words, airbrush makeup cannot give you a flawless finish if you?re suffering from moderate acne breakouts or have scarred skin. It will conceal the discoloration, but the indentions will remain (if there are any). I believe the decision to use this application is purely a personal preference.
As a makeup artist I do believe that it?s a very valuable skill to obtain because clients tend to lean towards what?s considered popular at the moment. You?ll have a better chance of getting the assignment if you have the necessary experience and equipment. Airbrush makeup does not require a sheer powder finish, and is available in water-resistant and multi-shade formulations. If you are an artist looking to gain experience with airbrush, then know that most kits come with adequate instructions (including videos) on how to use the air compressor machine. It will take a couple of hours of practice before you begin to feel comfortable with it. Remember to keep your eyes closed, and avoid spraying into the nose and ear canals.
In regards to spending money for a machine, try not to exceed $140 for a nice compressor. There are some vendors that have brands starting at $30. To get the full use of the airbrush machine, be sure to follow the manufacturer?s instructions on regular cleanings, and troubleshooting.

Some highlights from the book: * Illustrated with lots of color and black-and-white photos

* Before-and-after makeover photos included
* Advice from Sam?s peers about surviving the beauty business

Review
The information is mostly presented in a question/answer format that is most commonly used in fashion and beauty magazines. The information is extremely helpful, and I love that color photos are used to provide a visual of what he?s actually referring to. This book is 157 pages in all, and the first 50 pages contain makeup tips and techniques that you will find beneficial.
The rest of the book consists of pictures of the many celebrities Sam Fine has worked with and a summary of their look. You will not find information on skin care or a report on step-by-step makeup application for creating different looks. I recommend this book if you already have solid knowledge about how to apply makeup, because it does contain some extra tips you can use. If you are a beginner, this book may not be for you.
THE BEAUTY OF COLOR

Book Description
Iman, the adored fashion model icon and cosmetics entrepreneur, brings to you one of the first books that embrace global beauty and women of all ethnicities. In a period when the face of beauty has changed, the most celebrated women in Hollywood include such stars as Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, and Lucy Liu. Iman delivers a new approach to makeup and skin care by resisting categorizing women according to ethnicity.
She welcomes the whole range of skin color ? from light to dark. This is the first beauty and makeup book to truly address skin tones across the spectrum-Latina, Black, Asian, Indian, Native American, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, as well as women of mixed ethnicities. Because Iman has had a stable career as a world-class supermodel and has founded two top cosmetics lines, she understands the difficulties ethnic beauties have always had with skin care and makeup.
In The Beauty of Color, Iman gives very detailed information on skin care regimens and how you can use palettes targeted to your exact skin tone and type. One of the things I love most about this book is that she does include step-by-step information on how to achieve certain looks. This book is a must-have regardless of your current level of knowledge.
Review
This book is wonderful on so many different levels because it contains beautiful pictures, and is also extremely informative. It is one of few guides that is not only for ethnic beauties (Black, Latina, Asian, Indian, etc.), but it is for all women. Iman provides great instruction on issues regarding makeup application, skin care, and color palette selection. You will receive instructions on how to create certain looks with makeup, from a natural look to a glamour girl look. If you want to expand your knowledge even more, she includes tips to achieve vampy and ghetto fabulous looks as well.
If you have trouble selecting the correct foundation, blush, or bronzer, this book provides a firm foundation on how to do so. Furthermore, Iman discusses skin care issues (including hyperpigmentation) and gives care instructions on oily, dry, combination, and normal skin.
It is illustrated with beautiful, vibrant photographs, and contains a generous amount of information on makeup and skin care. If you love makeup and want to apply it correctly, buy this book!

Indian Beauty: Books based on natural skincare recipes and makeup techniques!

BEAUTY SECRETS OF INDIA: FROM AYURVEDIC TECHNIQUES TO EXOTIC ADORNMENTS

Book Description
Indian beauty and author Monisha Bharadwaj was born and raised in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay), and with this book she captures idealistic territory with a very personal, easygoing style that includes natural family recipes for the skin. She goes above and beyond by showing Western women how to look and feel vibrant, healthy, and ravishing. Beauty Secrets of India will lead you into a rich and attractive world with an approach that is both friendly and informative.
This book will encourage you to find simple ways to refresh and pamper yourself on a regular basis by blending Ayurvedic techniques with other natural systems. Included in the text are folk sayings, snippets of poetry, and tales of legendary Indian beauties combining a deep sense of India?s ageless knowledge with a modern approach to physical and spiritual beauty.
Review
This book has some wonderful recipes in it ranging from skin cleansers and polishers, to bath oils and teeth whiteners. This isn?t what you would call a traditional ?makeup? book because the information stems from the fact that your ancestors relied on customary herbs and other tropical ingredients to enrich their beauty. The emphasis is on natural beauty and strengthening your body and spirit.
There are some great tips on how to make natural cleansers, but unless you know where to look, some of the ingredients can be difficult to find. I suggest visiting some of the Indian-owned markets in your area if you can?t find a specific product. Monisha does a thorough job of discussing how the weather can affect the condition of your skin, and this is great information that is often ignored by many. If you?re a huge fan of Ayurvedic techniques and natural skin care, this book will serve as a wonderful asset!

Review
This is an excellent makeup guide for Indian beauty because it addresses the issues that are significant to Indian women regarding cosmetic products, texture, product usage, skin care, etc. Taylor uses Asian models of all ethnicities ranging from East Asian to South Asian ancestry to display a variety of makeup techniques. She incorporates tips and tricks for creating looks that involve colorful eyeshadows so you can still maintain a polished look.
She divulges a wealth of information on makeup tools and which colors are best suited for your skin tone. This book even covers past decades and how to apply the prominent looks of that period to the Asian face. I must say that it is very beautifully illustrated, but it doesn?t include color descriptions for the foundation colors used on the models. However, there are descriptions for other makeup products such as lipstick, eyeshadows, and blush.
If you tend to stick with very simple makeup applications, this book will surprise you with significant results. The instructions are very down-to-earth and easy to use. You will find great examples for different facial features, and Taylor provides information on how to emphasize those features. You will find this to be one of the most empowering books you?ve ever purchased! It is truly a must have in achieving the ultimate in Indian Beauty!

How to apply eye makeup

How To Apply Eye Makeup
Makeup should emphasize beauty and highlight your best features, not become a mask for which to hide. It is the eyes, the windows to your heart and character that are seen first. Your eyes create a focal point for creativity, fun, and elegance. Therefore, when applying eye makeup, it is necessary to create balance and harmony to reveal your true beauty.
Applying eye makeup can be a frightening concept if you are not equipped with the correct knowledge and equipment. Once you know the basics, you will find that applying eye makeup is fun. All you need is the right color, shadow brushes, an eye lining pencil, an eyelash curler, and mascara.
First, it is important to know that your eyes are a great place to begin to express yourself. Adding color to the eyes will automatically draw attention to them. Because of this, when you apply shadow, choose colors that complement your skin tone and eye color. Use the iris as a guide in choosing your color scheme. You want to create a polished elegant look.
Color Guide:
Blue Eyes
To emphasize blue eyes use gray, rose, mauve, purple, orange, peach, gold, or any shade of bronze. When selecting a shade of blue to go with the eyes follow the rule of opposites. (If the eye is dark blue, use sky blue; if the eye is icy blue, use darker blues, even indigo.)
Green Eyes
To emphasize green eyes use chestnut, royal purple, violet, plum, forest green, and brown. If the iris is a deep green, try using a darker eye shadow; if the iris is a pale green use a pale green eye shadow.
Hazel Eyes
To emphasize the green in hazel eyes use royal purple, rose, violet, and forest green. To make the eye more brown, use chestnut.
Brown Eyes
To emphasize brown eyes use copper, bronze, champagne, beige, forest green, gold, and other metallics. Using shades of green will complement brown eyes.
Brown-Black Eyes
To emphasize deep brown eyes use tones that are lighter and pearly to bounce more light. Try a sheer green.
The secret to applying Eye Makeup
When applying eye makeup, remember that a small amount goes a long way. It is best to start applying the shadow lightly, building up to intensity desired. Since you can alter the shape and look of your eyes using eye makeup, begin by tracing the brow bone with your finger or shadow tool to get a feel for the shape of your eye. It is important to note that you do no want to apply eye shadow above your brow bone; rather, you will be blending upward towards the brow bone.
How to use a brush to apply your eye shadows
Apply your shadow using a shadow brush in a medium size. The brush will give you more control. A larger eye shadow brush will give more coverage for the total eye. A smaller shadow brush will give a more defining line. Keep in mind that you will want to use a synthetic brush for creams and a natural hair brush for powder. Using these brushes for specific eye makeup will make clean-up easier.
1. Begin applying the shadow to the mobile eye, making sure that the shadow covers evenly and is blended carefully in an upward movement. Remember to blend toward the brow bone. Keeping the brush moving in circular movements will help create an even blend of color. Shadow should be applied toward the lachrymal area, or inner corner, and blended.
2. Apply the shadow on the opposite eye. Be sure to create equal looks. Uneven shadow will upset the balance and harmony.
3. Apply the eyeliner to the top of the eye, close to the lashes. This will create thickness. You can also line the bottom lashes lightly for a more dramatic and defined look. Remember that when you apply loner, black is more commonly used for nighttime and brown or navy for daytime.
4. For more emphasis, apply a pearly white or ivory in the inner corner of the eyes and above the brow bone to highlight the eyes. Blend carefully so that the shadow highlights and does not appear as a polka dot in the corner of the eye or a harsh line below the brow.
5. Finish applying eye makeup with mascara. Curl the lashes to further open the eyes. Once again, when applying eye makeup, it is best to begin with a light coat of mascara on both top and bottom lashes. You can build intensity by applying another coat, depending on the look desired. Look up when applying mascara to the lashes.
